Bringing an Animal to HSGC
We welcome pets to HSGC each day for a variety of reasons. Here is what you need to know when surrendering an animal:
- We may be full and unable to take the animal you are surrendering. Sometimes we simply run out of room when our animal spaces are full. We can only accept new animals when the ones we currently house are adopted. If you need to surrender an animal immediately, you are encouraged to visit Genesee County Animal Control on Pasadena Avenue in Flint.
- It is best to surrender in the morning. Our hours for surrender are 8:00-11:00 a.m. and Noon-4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are currently no Saturday Surrender Hours. We ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to closing so we have time to get the animal signed in and adjusted to its new surroundings.
- A valid identification is required. If you would like, you can also make a donation to HSGC, but it is not required to drop off an animal. Your donation will help pay for expenses for the animal while it stays at HSGC.
- Pet belongings. If your pet has any personal belongings, such as medical records, crate/bed, toys, food, collar, etc., we will make sure they go with your pet to their new home. These items may help your pet transition into their new environment.
