If you have the time, we have the volunteer job for you.
We cherish the hundreds of volunteers who help us each and every day to care for the animals. There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities at HSGC. Check out the ways you can help below.
If you are interested in volunteering, download our volunteer form below and return to the HSGC.
We ask for a 6 month commitment with at least 5 hours a month.
Bark Buddy
The Humane Society of Genesee County needs experienced dog handlers who want to stay fit and benefit our shelter dogs! Dog walkers must be able to handle dogs with lots of energy, understand safety alerts and animal body language. In addition, we need volunteers to brush and fluff dogs to make them beautiful and ready for adoption. Dog walkers must adhere to the policies and procedures of the Humane Society.
Greeter
Greeters will be stationed in the lobby where they can greet visitors and potential adopters. Being a greeter requires background knowledge of the HSGC, including our programs, services and the ability to communicate effectively with our customers.
Kitty Cuddler
We are in need of volunteers who love to work with cats! As a volunteer working with our shelter cats, your job will be to brush, pet and exercise our feline friends. You will also be scooping litter boxes and making fun catnip toys for our cats to enjoy. You should have a firm knowledge of cat behavior and cat body language.
Newspaper/Laundry
This is a necessary mainstay of the Humane Society volunteer program. As a volunteer for this position, you will be responsible for unfolding newspapers for our cages, washing dishes as needed and folding laundry.
Party Animal
If you have an outgoing personality, marketing and/or event planning experience, we need you! Whether we have a large or small event going on it takes months of planning. Party Animals help raise community awareness and help develop and/or distribute promotional materials. At an event, Party Animals will greet guests, take photographs and sell tickets.
